Growing Goodness: Why "Good Enough" for My Kids Wasn't Enough for Yours

As parents, we all have those moments where we’re just trying to survive the afternoon, say “yes” to our kids, and create a little magic. For years, my family’s version of that magic looked like neon-dripping cups from the local food truck by the neighborhood pool, or quick, spur-of-the-moment stops at the gas station on a hot summer day.
I wasn't a perfect, super-health mom. I did my best—I cooked at home when I could to avoid the "icky" additives, and yes, I hid veggies in the dreaded daily green smoothie to cover my bases! But when it came to quick treats, I didn't question the food industry as much as I should have. I just wanted my kids to enjoy being kids.
Then came the turning point.
It was a free frozen treat day at a major gas station chain. Like every other kid in town, mine were ecstatic. But as I watched them happily sipping away, I couldn’t help but stare at those unnaturally bright, glowing colors. That evening, I hopped online to look up the ingredients.
Let's just say the food dye was only the very beginning.
I felt an immediate pit in my stomach. Why are we giving this to our children? I was so mad at myself for not looking closer sooner. To make matters harder, my youngest daughter struggled with food allergies. Even when a treat didn't have her specific allergens, these cheap, synthetic, hyper-processed snow cones would leave her with itchy skin and an itchy throat.
I knew right then I was on a mission. There had to be a middle ground. I wasn't trying to create a boring "health food"—kids still want something that tastes incredible and feels like a celebration. I just wanted a sensible treat.
Almost seven years ago, our family set out to reinvent the snow cone syrup from scratch. Our kids became our official (and very honest!) chief taste-testers. Together, we built Sunshine Sno.
What started in our own kitchen as a way to protect our kids has grown into a USDA Organic Certified brand that ships all across the country. We did the hard work of sourcing better, cleaner ingredients so you don't have to spend your day reading tiny labels.
We made Sunshine Sno to give your family a vibrant, delicious choice—and to give you the one thing every parent deserves: a little less guilt, and a lot more joy. Made with Organic Love, Not in a Lab!
